Activities
The KnowledgeHouseAfrica had embarked on various projects and activities which are beneficial to humanity. The on going activities and projects are explained as follows:
IT 4 Rural Dwellers. The IT for Rural Dwellers is an ICT for Rural Development initiated by the KnowledgeHouseAfrica. This project is being collaborated with other organisations like the NCCF-NYSC, Fantsuam Foundation, the Paradigm Initiative Nigeria and the Oke-Ogun Community Development Network.
The aim of the Project is to go to various villages and the teach the village youths the usage of the computer systems with special attention to the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Ways of making money through ICT tools are also introduced to the participants. This is to ensure their self-sustainability.
Thus far the following villages have been visited by our young and dynamic e-evangelist.
The Gberigbe village of the Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State of Nigeria. This was in collaboration with NCCF of the NYSC of Lagos State.
The Gbogije and Sapati villages of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government of Lagos State of Nigeria. This was also in collaboration with NCCF of the NYSC of Lagos State.
The Fantsuam Foundation of Kaduna State, invited the KnowledgeHouseAfrica to introduce and train the young ZITT Geeks of Kafanchan to FOSS. This training gave birth to the Kafanchan Linux User Group.
A fact finding IT-Mission was organised by the KnowledgeHouseAfrica and Paradigm Initiative Nigeria at the invitation of Oke-Ogun Community Development Network to let the Ago Are village youths and elders know the importance of IT to the development of the community. The team later went to the village information center to repair their existing computer installations.
(E-youth). The Information and Communication Technology Empowerment Conference. The E-youth Conference was originally targeted to higher institution students but it was later extended to high school students and neihbourhood youths. The debut was organised in January 2004 and hosted by the University of Ibadan. Other Institutions that have hosted the Eyouth are the Babcock University, Ogun State, Bowen University, Oyo State, Federal College of Education, Katsina State. The first Neighbourhood Eyouth was the Satellite Town Eyouth Conference.
The goal of the Conference is to empower the students to be self sustaining through the use of ICT and its related products and applications.
The Objectives of the Conference are:
Bringing ICT awareness to Nigerian Youths by informing them about the opportunities that abounds in the ICT Fields.
Building and "retooling" (i.e. adopting today's ICT tools which includes Open Source Technologies) the human resources capacity of the tertiary institutions through the hands on experience which are being administered by the resource persons for job creation and employment through ICT applications for self sustainability.
Introduction and promotion of local, national, regional ICT Organisations that can be of benefit to the participants with special attention to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process. We update them on the role of young people through the Youth Caucus and the Youths Creating Digital Opportunities (YCDO) coalition, which is the formal representative for the youths in the United Nations based WSIS.
Seek to inform the participant on the role of the tertiary institution students on the integration of IT into Educational System and how their involvement in developing skills and sharing knowledge through projects can increase local content, entrepreneurship and therefore bridge the digital divide.
Creation of opportunities for student project exhibition and involvement in the award granting Nigerian tertiary Education virtual learning local content development contest.
The Heart of Grace Mission
The Heart of Grace Mission Project is an initiative of the KnowledgeHouseAfrica to the show God's love to the underserved in our society by
helping to feed, treat, equip and empower the less privileged Refugees at Oru Camp
. The mission project had been taking place since December 25, 2004 when a couple of young people went to Agege and Iyana Ipaja of Lagos State, Nigeria to distribute food to the destitute. This also was repeated in December 2005 in some other areas of Lagos state and also at the Refugee Camp at Oru, Ogun State. The height of the activity was when 59 volunteers camped at the Oru Refugee Camp from April 13th to 17th, 2006 for this year's Easter programme which included InfoTech Workshop, Health Clinic and Health Seminar, Vocational Training, Youth & Teens Variety Nite and Children training and party, Church worker Seminar etc.
The participating organisations are
Center For Youth, Family and Law, The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Christian Corpers' Fellowship, Dee Relate of The African Youth For Transparency, The Lagos State University Chapter of Nigerian Christian Conference of Medical & Dental Students, The Shepherd Flocks Youth Fellowship, Refugee Children Assisted Programme, 842 Computer Training Centre and also Federal Government Colleges Ex-Student Christian Association. Support was given by Nestle Nigeria Plc and MediLand Medical Centre, Lagos together with numerous individuals.
